Preventing aging in 20s, 30s and 40s
Preventing aging in 20s, 30s and 40s
Fine lines, pigmentation, discoloration of the skin, uneven texture and wrinkles after an age are quite common in all of us, but that doesn’t mean you can’t prevent them from making your skin look dull and aged.
The rising pollution levels, stress, increased blue light consumption, poor nutrition and lack of self-care have also aggravated premature aging a common phenomenon nowadays.
According to the cosmetologists, premature aging in youth is a big concern and they have come across many 25-year-old patients who have developed skin texture and wrinkles like an 80-year-old because of these above-mentioned factors.
However, beauty markets across the globe are filled with Hyaluronic acids to fillers that make you look ageless and flawless. All these ageing issues can be avoided by incorporating a regular skincare routine that includes sunscreen as the most crucial part of the anti-aging routine and experts suggest that people should start their skincare regimen in their 20s. They can have certain lasers and medically designed face treatments, which have no downtime, to pump in nutrition to prevent premature aging.
We caught up with Dr. Geeta Grewal, Cosmetic Surgeon
and Wellness Expert, 9Muses Wellness Clinic, Gurugram to help us understand how can one prevent aging at the first place.
In your 20s
Your anti-aging skin care routine should focus more on prevention rather than worrying about it which you will get in the near future. The major concern in this age group is acne, pigmentation, blackheads, oiliness & dull skin that often result due to the hormonal changes in the body. It’s essential that you follow a healthy lifestyle and take a nutritious diet full of green leafy vegetables. It’s mandatory to remove your make-up before going to bed and apply a moisturizer. If you don’t clean and moisturize your skin, your pores will be clogged and pigmentation and blackhead problems will increase. This will further result in poor skin conditions.
Re-apply sunscreen: While most of us do apply sunscreen daily, very few realize that one application is not sufficient. Sunburns, tanning, rashes, itchiness, even skin cancer are caused by exposure to sun’s harmful radiation. You need to check whether your sunscreen provides protection from UVA and UVB radiation besides HCV and iron oxide. Iron oxide protects your skin from prolonged exposure to blue light, which is as harmful as UVA and UVB radiation.
Don’t ignore skin issues: There are a lot of skin issues which are just arriving in this age. It’s the age of acne. Your skincare cycle needs stimulation because it’s the beginning of hormonal changes. Certain medical in-house treatments can be taken that are holistically designed to cater to the skin concerns of this age group depending on the skin condition. It’s advised to take at least two professional sessions in a year.
In your 30s
One needs to put more effort and care on nutrition because this is the time when body’s assimilation becomes slow. You need to have more aggressive sessions with your cosmetologist and customized skincare depending upon how you’re progressing. This is also the time when more inflammation will start setting in the skin
In your 40s
This is the age group when you have deep wrinkles, sagging and loss of hydration. You need to follow certain advanced treatment procedure which helps in building collagen, pumping in more Hyaluronic acid which can be injected. One needs to be watchful about the body weight. It’s essential to maintain the right body weight during this period. This process should start from your late 20s only because if you have not controlled your body weight in your 20s, it gets difficult for you to manage in your 40s.
Excessive body fat increases inflammation in the body and can cause various chronic diseases including diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. It has been observed that patients who maintain healthy body weight also hold on to their treatment results for longer. Besides maintaining the body weight, one also needs to maintain a healthy lifestyle and positive mental health. They need to remain in touch with their cosmetologist and ensure they visit for in clinic treatments once in month or once in two months.
